Improving the energy efficiency of homes has become increasingly important over recent years given rising energy costs, the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and the importance of improving air quality within our homes. Research reveals that living in an energy-efficient home could reduce your heating bills by at least 20% as well as improving your comfort and providing better indoor air quality.
In 2022, The Home Builders’ Federation released its first ‘Watt A Save’ report comparing the energy performance of new build homes with older properties and, in addition to discovering that the home building industry collectively significantly reduced household carbon emissions, revealed that a new home could save a household up to almost £2,200 in annual energy costs. This saving depends on the type of home, but the average new build home uses up to 58% less energy than older counterparts.
Beechcroft owners can relax in the knowledge that their home has been designed to maximise energy efficiency. In addition to high levels of insulation which minimise energy loss, Beechcroft’s homes feature LED lighting, double or triple-glazed windows and underfloor heating which is more efficient than traditional resources.
Many new build homes also feature air source heat pumps which work by absorbing heat from the outside air, even when temperatures are well below freezing, and transferring it to the inside of the house where it warms the property as well as providing hot water which is stored in a water tank that supplies taps and showers.
Heat pumps, which use renewable energy, are up to 300% more efficient than gas boilers, are usually more cost effective and reduce the carbon footprint of your home by around 12% a year. They are also quiet, making only as much noise as a fridge/freezer.
In addition to saving around £2,000 a year in energy costs, a new Beechcroft home offers an abundance of light-filled living space – and this natural light saves energy as well as improving a sense of well-being.
